Unit Description

The Protected Nature Unit works to protect and manage nature. This includes managing many of the county's nearly 240 existing nature reserves, as well as creating new reserves. Wetland work, water protection, and regional coordination of outdoor recreation are also part of the unit, which also works with nature communication and distributing local nature conservation grants. Employees are actively involved in various assessment processes and maintain and provide databases with information about the county's nature. In collaboration with the Environmental Analysis and Wildlife Unit, we are also involved in the Ecostreams for LIFE project, where the unit is now seeking four team leaders for stream restoration.

Your Responsibilities

The main task is to work within the Ecostreams for LIFE project in a team with an excavator operator to restore streams affected by timber floating. The work is planned and supported in the field by two project coordinators. There is also work that is done manually, and the position also involves participation in preparations and planning for various water conservation measures. To some extent, it also includes performing tasks that involve data collection before and after completed conservation work or inventories. Other work in the form of species inventories and conservation work may also occur. Work may also involve other tasks within the project or the unit's areas of activity.

Information about the Employment

Training for relevant tasks will be conducted on-site before work begins.

The tasks require good physical ability as the work often involves long working days under field conditions, such as walking in various terrains with field equipment and wading in flowing water.

The work is based in Härnösand, but large parts of the work are located in areas in the western parts of Örnsköldsvik Municipality, which will involve overnight stays in other locations for a large part of the employment.

The position is a seasonal employment starting May 25, or by agreement, until October 31.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a high school education or experience that the employer considers relevant for this position. A post-secondary education in natural sciences with a relevant focus (such as water, fishing, or conservation education) or other education that the employer assesses as relevant for the position is an advantage.

You have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish.

Experience in leadership is an advantage. Training or experience in GIS, approved training for chainsaw work (according to Swedish standards), and certification for electrofishing are also advantageous.

Furthermore, experience in practical restoration of aquatic environments, work with conservation mapping and biotope mapping of aquatic environments, planning of water conservation measures, or other outdoor work (fieldwork) is advantageous.

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities and are looking for someone who is self-driven, structured, flexible, and has good collaborative skills.

A valid driver's license (B) is required.
